Engels conversatie 2 (Gevorderd B1 / 2F)
Whether you want to learn another language for travelling or working abroad, to develop yourself, to boost your career opportunities or to be a global citizen, learning English is the way to go. The English language dominates the business world, arts, culture, entertainment, social media and aviation. English is the number one language in international communication – and with 2 billion speakers worldwide – it’s safe to say the English language is well worth learning. Experts say that by 2050 half the world will be speaking English, therefore you need English to communicate with the world!
Participating in English conversation lessons is a great way to improve your knowledge and understanding of the English language. This year the VUA offers pre-intermediate (A2), intermediate (B1)- and advanced (B2) conversational courses. It goes without saying that flexibility and differentiation have a prominent place in the classroom, so students will be supported and challenged as needed.
During the lessons we will work both classically and in groups. The teaching methods and materials are varied and combine traditional teaching practices with games and activities to encourage and stimulate oral participation. Although the emphasis of the course is placed upon speaking- and conversational skills, these are not stand-alone skills, therefore attention will also be paid to listening- and reading. Additionally, grammar and vocabulary appropriate to the level will be offered to reinforce communication competency through language chunks.
Can-Do statements for intermediate B1 level:
Listening: I can understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. I can understand the bottom line of many radio or TV programmes on current affairs or topics of personal or professional interest when the delivery is relatively slow and clear.
Reading: I can understand texts that consist mainly of high frequency everyday or job-related language. I can understand the description of events, feelings and wishes in personal letters.
Spoken interaction: I can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. I can enter unprepared into conversation on topics that are familiar, of personal interest or pertinent to everyday life (e.g. family, hobbies, work, travel and current events.
Spoken production: I can connect phrases in a simple way in order to describe experiences and events, my dreams, hopes and ambitions or abstract matters. I can briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. I can narrate a story or relate the plot of a book or film and describe my reactions.
Writing: I can write simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. I can write personal letters describing experiences and impressions.

| Niveau: | Gevorderd B1 / 2F Op dit niveau heb je de basis onder de knie en ben je een onafhankelijke taalgebruiker. Je red je in de meeste situaties op reis in een land waar Engels de voertaal is of in het dagelijkse leven. Je hebt een actieve woordenschat van 2000-5000 woorden en kunt redelijk een gesprek voeren en je mening geven. Je kunt nieuwsberichten, radioprogramma’s, heldere verhalen, actualiteitendocumentaires- en film met een eenvoudige verhaallijn verstaan en de kern van krantenartikelen begrijpen. Verder kun je samenhangende teksten zoals e-mails, brieven of verslagen over persoonlijke of bekende onderwerpen schrijven. Je breidt je grammatica uit met o.a. de toekomende tijd, modals, voorwaardelijke zinnen (conditionals) en de lijdende vorm (passive voice). |
